We got to spend the day with the kids yesterday!

We haven't done anything with them since September so I was really jonesin' for some kid-time.

First off, we headed to the movies and watched Coraline in 3D! Wow, but was it great and Elyana was absolutely amazed at all the "stuff coming right out to us!" After the movie, it was time to head out for some food. Warren's. YUM! The kids hammed it up for the camera:Yeah, I think this is a pose. Wonder if she's been watching one of those Top Model Reality shows?

Just got home from the family's annual Super Bowl party.
Okay. It's actually my niece's and Mom's birthdays we celebrate, but since it falls on Super Sunday...

Personally, I've had a pretty good one. Took a small hit due to the bad economy (stop shopping at Wal-Mart, people!), but can't really complain. I have a great wife, a partially furnished home, and food in storage (we're going to be sick of soup in a crisis, for sure).

We lost Grandma this year, but she's in a better place, connected with those that have gone before her. We'll miss her but know we'll join her one day (I'm sure she'll be waiting, water gun in hand, the little prankster).

No resolutions for me yet - just hoping that 2009 is as good or better than 2008.

I hope yours is happy!

Born in Ogden, Utah on Jan. 14, 1920Departed on Dec. 25, 2008 and resided in Hooper, UT.

HOOPER – Margaret Moore Byington, 88, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, 2008, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.

Margaret was born January 14, 1920 in Ogden, Utah, the fourth child of Samuel James and Luella Simpson Moore. She was raised, educated and lived her entire life in Hooper. She attended Hooper School and Weber High School.

She married John Earl Byington on January 14, 1938 in Farmington, Davis, Utah. They were the loving parents of ten children. They were sealed as a family June 18, 1963 in the Logan LDS Temple. They enjoyed attending the temple very regularly. Earl passed away on July 25, 1980.

She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings in the Primary and as a visiting teacher in the Relief Society for many years.Mom was a very hard worker, helping her husband and children with their farm and milk cows for many years. She also sewed most of our clothing and was a wonderful cook. She also worked at Max Factor for six years, the Weber District School lunch program for three years and head cook at LDS Services for six years.

She loved playing softball and played volleyball for many years. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much and was always doing something with them such as playing games, watching movies, etc. She also loved doing puzzles, crocheting afghans, making stocking hats, and hot pads and crocheted trivets and plastic canvas ornaments and recommend holders.

She is survived by her ten children; Connie (John) Murphy, Earl Dean (Linda), Margie (Ken) Becraft, Kenneth John (Laurie), Leon Samuel, Sharon (Greg) Ford, Delma Woodruff, Elaine, Jane (Brian) Marquardt, and Jean Spendlove, 31 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, brother Vernon (Ruby) Moore, sisters; Josephine Lloyd and Louella Colter, 3 brothers-in-law; Leonard (Darlene), Irvin, Lawrence Byington, sisters-in-law; Annie Robinson and Nelda Shephard and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, grandchildren, Todd Byington, Eddie Murphy, Deonna Byington and two great-grandchildren Eric Bird and Trent Wardle. What a wonderful reunion she must be having now.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the caregivers at McKay-Dee and Vista Care Hospice. A special thanks to Christy Cynthia, Bridget, Kurt, Dan, and Nicole.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Homestead Ward Chapel, 5375 South 5900 West, Hooper, Utah at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call Sunday, December 28, 2008 from 6-8:00 p.m., at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah, and on Monday from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church.Interment in Hooper City Cemetery.

And in my opinion, she hit it spot on when she told the Las Vegas crowd at the Stand up for Equality rally yesterday: "They pissed off the wrong group of people," she told the crowd. "They have galvanized a community. We are so together now and we all want the same thing and we shouldn’t have to settle for less. Elijah's (aka Bubba) Birthday. Started off with smiles and excitement all around. The original plans were to spend the day at the Dinosaur Park. Found out yesterday morning that beginning last Monday, the park would no longer be open on Sundays. Bummer. So...we improvised!

While out Christmas shopping this year, be sure and check the "made in" portion of the fine print. Does the country in which the item you are purchasing have laws?

What child doesn't put something in their mouth when playing with their new toys? What adult doesn't, for that matter? It would surely be a shame for your child to have their every Christmas wish come true on that magical morning, only to be in the emergency room that night with symptoms of lead poisoning.

And while I'm on the subject...I have to wonder about the poor factory workers who assembled the cheap piece of crap. Are they dropping like flies with toxic poisoning? Just something to chew on there (no pun intended).

So make your list. Check it twice. Then check the internet to see if it's been recalled since the stores are keeping these things on their shelves (how else are they gonna make a profit?).

Last week, while surfing the net with my good bud Wuju, we rode the wave of deals at dealcatcher.com until I had clicked here, punched in some numbers there, and the next thing ya know - I've got a pair of Heelys coming.

Why is this something to blog about?

I'm 39 years old. And I just bought Heelys. Does this compute?

If you read the title of this blog, I am sure it does. I do believe this small, seemingly insignificant act of mine further proves the fact that the "stereotypical dyke" (which I consider myself, yes) and the 9 year-old boy are, in fact, one in the same.

9 year-old boys have the best toys marketed toward them; Transformer aisle? Best toys of the season! Hot Wheels? Always the classic. What dyke doesn't have this on her Christmas list? What 9 year-old boy doesn't?

Eh?

We have so much in common, it's almost scary. How to differentiate the two? Well....dykes have jobs (usually...there's a few lazy ones out there, I'll admit). The 9 year-old boy might be allowed to toss a newspaper in the general direction of your home, but until he is 12, he is going to miss and your neighbor who doesn't even take the paper, will get yours at no cost. Dykes also appreciate females (usually...ok, I have this ex, but that is SSSOOOO another blog entry), and to the 9 year-old boy? Well, let's just say that there are cooties involved and leave it at that.

The Heelys arrived in the mail today! I instantly turned into a 9 year-old boy. They are laced up (big fat laces-yeah!), and the wheels have been inserted. So I am off...
